My love for horses began at age 3 in Zimbabwe and has led to a full time career in thoroughbreds.
Experienced. Trustworthy. Passionate.
I was born in Zimbabwe and was always around horses from an early age - I think I started riding at the age of 3 (see photo above). Some of my earliest memories are of going to Borrowdale Racecourse in Harare. I loved looking at the horses in the paddock before the race. We moved to California in 1989 and unfortunately continuing horse riding just wasn't economically feasible, but I tried as best as I could to keep up with the big races as a kid and on in to my teenage years.
Once the internet started becoming more widespread and available during my senior year of high school I really got hooked on horse racing and looking up pedigrees and result charts. I would spend hours and hours just going through the stallion register. After my freshman year of college I worked a summer at Lane's End doing yearling sales prep and absolutely loved it. I also took some Sports Business classes at the University of Colorado which, encouraged me to dive deeper into the finances behind the sport. It was during this time I learned more about the bloodstock industry and market valuations of the horses. Once I fully realized I could make a living in the thoroughbred industry there was little doubt as to what I wanted to do for a living.
I moved to Kentucky in 2002 and began working as a researcher and writer for Thoroughbred Times before moving on to Taylor Made Sales, Hill 'n' Dale Farm and then joining Select Sales as a startup in 2009, a top ten consignor when dissolved in early 2020.
In 2009 I co-founded and managed a racing syndicate and also started my independent bloodstock work.
After being on the selling end of thousands of horses at public sales for 17 years, I officially transitioned to full time independent bloodstock work under Cary Bloodstock in January of 2020. I am most excited to be more active in multiple areas of the business and to continue doing a good job for my clients and help them achieve fun and success.
Outside of Work.
I am blessed to be married to my wife Matia, an incredibly brilliant, smart, creative, and curious woman who has brought a totally different world perspective to my way of viewing things. We met when sitting next to each other on a flight to Lexington back in 2013 and it was truly love at first sight. We are blessed to be the parents of a happy little baby boy named Lars and doggie parents to Ella, a naughty, energetic, cheese loving Portuguese Water Dog. In addition to my wife, I have an incredible network of family and friends constantly supporting me inclusive of my mom, brothers, and in-laws. I really am incredibly lucky.
Outside of work, I love sports of all kinds- you name it and I probably follow it. I also love history and reading books. I was a history major in college (business minor) and can’t seem to ever learn enough.
I love to travel and experience new cultures. And food. And wine. And beer. I pretty much enjoy anything that is new and interesting or tastes delicious. My mother is an avid traveler and history teacher so she instilled a lot of my love of discovery and knowledge.
